Central Visayas logs 237 new COVID-19 cases, 113 in Cebu City


The Department of Health (DOH) Region 7 on Monday reported 237 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), bringing the total infections in Central Visayas to 10,506. 

Total recoveries also rose to 3,570 after 45 more patients recovered from the respiratory illness, while the death toll climbed to 408 with 40 new fatalities.

The DOH said there are also 6,527 active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine.

No new cases were recorded in Negros Oriental, Bohol, and Siquijor.

Meanwhile, 113 of the 237 new infections came from Cebu City, the area with the highest number of infections nationwide.

Cebu City’s total COVID-19 cases rose to 6,870 with 2,869 recoveries and 250 deaths.

The Cebu City Health Department earlier said it would no longer post daily COVID-19 updates pursuant to a recommendation of the regional inter-agency task force to avoid confusion.

The Philippines has logged 46,333 cases with 12,185 recoveries and 1,303 deaths as of Monday afternoon. —LDF, GMA News
