Davao City rolls out alternative barrier for motorbike-riding couples

The Davao City government on Friday rolled out an alternative barrier design for motorcycle-riding couples in the city.

In memorandum order no. 017-2020 signed by Mayor Sara Duterte, the design, which is a wearable barrier similar to a backpack, will cover the neck and does not extend beyond the top of the head of the driver.

Aside from the barrier, wearing a face mask and crash helmet are also required for couples who want to motorcycles

“In view of the above requirements, it seems that the relationship between the driver and the passenger is inconsequential given that these will be the same requirements that will be required for other individuals unrelated to each other. Please allow maximum tolerance in this regard,” the memorandum read.

On Saturday, Joint Task Force COVID Shield commander Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar said LGBTQ couples were also allowed to use motorcycles in community quarantine areas as long as they provide proof that they are a couple or live-in partners.

Back-riding on motorcycles had been allowed beginning July 10, but only among couples. — DVM, GMA News
