Masbate locals build isolation facility out of bamboo, fallen trees


Residents of Barangay Mababangbaybay in Claveria, Masbate worked together and built a COVID-19 isolation facility made of bamboo and fallen trees to prevent the further spread of the virus in their area.

According to a report on “Stand For Truth” on Tuesday, the residents built the native facility for locally stranded individuals who would return to their barangay would need to be isolated.

“Noong nagpulong kami ng mga barangay official ay sabi ko magtatayo tayo ng quarantine facility gawa po ng mga na-lockdown na mga kabarangay namin sa Maynila. Kaya para iwas tayo sa kaso, magtatayo tayo immediately talaga,” the barangay captain said.

The facility, which was made out of light materials, has two floors with eight rooms each.

The facility was finished in less than two weeks.

“‘Yong sa labor, ‘yong mga carpenter, karamihan po doon mga voluntary. Sabi ko magtulong-tulong na tayo. Hindi lang para sa amin kundi para sa lahat po. Napadali po ‘yong trabaho kasi po maraming tumulong,” the barangay captain said.

So far, Barangay Mababangbaybay has no case of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, Masbate reported a total of 16 cases of COVID-19.

Nationwide, cases of COVID-19 reached 57,545 on Tuesday including 20,459 recoveries and 1,603 fatalities. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/DVM, GMA News
