New COVID-19 cases in several provinces found to be OFWs, LSIs

Most new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the provinces are returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and locally stranded individuals (LSIs), according to Lei Alviz's report on "24 Oras Weekend."

Sixteen new COVID-19 cases were reported in Cagayan Valley, the highest reported number in a single day in the region. Fourteen of the cases were LSIs and two were OFWs.

Meanwhile, Batangas City reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the region. In Lipa City, an airline employee had tested positive for the illness.

The latest case in Cuenca, meanwhile, tested positive two days after he was exposed to a COVID-19 patient.

Also in Cuenca, two of five individuals who tested positive were children. All of the patients are asymptomatic.

Batangas Province reported a total of 584 COVID-19 cases with 297 active cases, 252 recoveries, and 35 fatalities.

Though Bataan reported a total of 273 cases, only 57 remain active after 22 patients recovered from the virus. This is the highest daily recoveries recorded in Bataan.

Western Visayas also reported record-high recoveries at 63.

In Bohol, a sitio is under lockdown after a COVID-19 patient succumbed to the illness. A purok in Ozamis, Misamis Occidental is also under lockdown after a soldier tested positive.

Meanwhile, one LSI and OFW were the two of three new COVID-19 cases in Iligan City.
