Habagat enhanced by Enteng, thunderstorm cause floods, landslide

Heavy rains from the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) enhanced by Tropical Storm Enteng (international name: Jangmi) and localized thunderstorms caused flooding and a landslide in some areas on Sunday.

In Barangay Vitali in Zamboanga City, a landslide occurred in a mountainous area, obstructing half the road, according to a report by Jonathan Andal on GMA News' Unang Balita on Monday.

It took three hours before the road was cleared of debris.

On MacArthur Highway in Apalit, Pampanga, the floodwaters were knee-deep.

It was also almost zero visibility along the Fil-Am Friendship Highway in Angeles City, Pampanga.

In Masantol, Pampanga, the floodwaters were also knee-deep, due to the rains and the high tide, according to a separate report on Unang Balita by GMA News stringer Rommel Ramos.

Meanwhile, in Casiguran, Aurora, farmers were not able to dry their harvested palay due to the heavy rains.

In Nagcarlan, Laguna, a 24-year-old drowned in the river. Relatives said Richard Gamboa was doing the laundry when he probably had an epileptic attack and fell into the water.

Another drowning incident occurred in Laguna. A 10-year-old was swimming in San Isidro River in San Pedro with siblings when he drowned. His body was found near the Laguna de Bay.

In Bongao, Tawi-Tawi meanwhile, three hours of rain in the morning caused the drainage to overflow.

Enteng exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Sunday afternoon.

However, a new weather disturbance, Tropical Depression Ferdie, together with the Southwest Monsoon, will bring rains on Monday over parts of Luzon.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was raised over the western portion of Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur.

Ferdie is expected to exit PAR on Monday morning. —KG, GMA News
