14 Marawi City barangays placed under lockdown due to increasing COVID-19 cases

Due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases, 14 barangays in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur were placed under localized targeted lockdown since Tuesday.

Interviewed on GMA News' Unang Balita on Wednesday, Inter-Agency Task Force deputy chairperson in Lanao del Sur Dr. Alinader Minalang  said the lockdowns were imposed to prevent the spread of the disease.

“Na-notice natin nitong mga nakaraang araw mabilis 'yung paglabas nitong mga positive cases. So this is a preemptive measure natin para mapigilan natin 'yung pagkalat ng virus na ito sa Marawi City,” he said.

Minalang noted the lockdowns do not necessarily cover the entire concerned barangays. In these areas, only the households with COVID-19 cases and the nearby homes will be covered.

According to him, Marawi City recorded a total of 56 confirmed cases with 16 active cases.

In the entire province of Lanao del Sur, a total of 211 cases were reported with 29 active cases.
