Watchlisted ex-cop, henchman killed while allegedly resisting arrest

A former police officer who was on President Rodrigo Duterte’s drug watchlist and his alleged accomplice were killed in Minglanilla, Cebu after they supposedly resisted arrest.

According to Allan Domingo’s report on “24 Oras Weekend,” authorities were attempting to serve a warrant of arrest on Basilio Quirante and Faustino Sarminez over multiple attempted murder, murder, and drug possession charges.

However, authorities said that Quirante shot at them and attempted to escape, compelling authorities to respond with deadly force.

“We were able to neutralize a level one listed on the PRRD’s list,” Brigadier General Albert Ignatius Ferro, PRO-7 Director, said.

Quirante had three standing warrants and was considered the leader of the Quirante drug and gun for hire gang while Sarminez had three warrants of arrest and was an accomplice of the group.

Authorities retrieved a submachine gun, a .45 caliber pistol, ammunition, and packets of shabu from the scene. — Joahna Lei Casilao/DVM, GMA News
