Maguindanao massacre suspect nabbed in Misamis Oriental

A suspect in the Maguindanao massacre was arrested by authorities on Friday in Misamis Oriental.

The suspect was identified as Nasser Adam y Mangelen who is wanted for murder.

Adam, 45, was nabbed at about 4 p.m. in Barangay Mohon in the municipality of Tagoloan by joint personnel of Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Lanao PFU, CIDG RFU 10-RSOT/Camiguin PFU, PIB Misamis Oriental, RCSU 10, MAPIO-DI and Tagoloan Municipal Police Station (MPS).

The suspect a.k.a. Umar Kasim y Bansuan works as a security guard in Tagoloan.

Authorities said the suspect was among Andal "Datu Unsay" Ampatuan Jr.'s henchmen who were involved in the Maguindanao massacre on November 23, 2009. Ampatuan Jr., and his relatives former Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao governor Zaldy Ampatuan, Anwar Ampatuan Sr., Anwar "Ipi" Ampatuan Jr., and Anwar Sajid "Ulo" Ampatuan were among those convicted in December 2019 for 57 counts of murder.

The suspect has a warrant of arrest for murder issued by Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 221 Judge Jocelyn Solis-Reyes.

No bail was recommended, based on the warrant.

The suspect was brought to CIDG RFU 10 for proper disposition before being turned over to the court concerned. —With a report from Ferdinandh Cabrera/KG, GMA News
