Number of active COVID-19 cases in Cainta decreasing —mayor

By ANNA FELICIA BAJO,GMA News

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Cainta, Rizal is decreasing, Mayor Kit Nieto said Friday, noting the equitable distribution of doctors to patients in the municipality.

During the day's Laging Handa press briefing, Nieto said a total of 198 active COVID-19 cases have been recorded in Cainta as of Friday, August 28.

He said the local government was able to manage the positive cases by assigning at least 40 doctors to monitor patients. One doctor, he said, monitors at least five patients.

Nieto said some doctors also offer their services for free.

"We just engage all our consultants and assigned to them at least five patients who are under home quarantine para bantayan at i-manage nila. We already disgarded their specializations because I just believe na kung doctor ka, you will be able to treat and manage a COVID patient," he said.

"With the number of doctors na nakatutok doon sa mga pasyente, lumaki 'yung probability namin na mas ma-manage lahat at matutukan at madeclare alin doon 'yung mga recoveries," Nieto added.

The mayor also said Chinese herbal medicine, lianhua quingwen jiaonang, was also distributed to the infected individuals, which also helped in their fast recovery. He said the medicine is already approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

"We were able to distribute 'yung mga medicines na sina-suggest nila na ibigay na rin namin pati 'yung Chinese herbal med na in-approve na ng FDA, we distributed it," Nieto said.

Nieto said as an incentive, he would provide his entire August salary for the doctor who will have the highest number of patients who will recover from COVID-19. --KBK, GMA News
