Actual opening of Baguio City to tourists will happen next week -Magalong

The "full execution" of opening Baguio City to tourists from Region I will happen next week, tracing czar and Mayor Benjamin Magalong said on Monday.

At a Laging Handa press briefing, Magalong said local authorities are still addressing other matters in the province. He mentioned that two barangays in Baguio City have COVID-19 outbreak.

What will happen on Tuesday, September 22, is just the official launch, Magalong clarified.

"'Yung mga sistema po in place na po kaya lang ang gusto ko lang po klaruhin... bukas po 'yung launching, launching pa lang po 'yun pero 'yung actual execution will probably happen next week kasi inaayos pa po 'yung ibang provinces, 'yung kanilang mga sistema. At the same time, in the case of Baguio mayroon din po kaming isang outbreak dito po sa dalawang barangay. We are addressing it," Magalong said.

"By next week, maaayos na po natin 'yan. So we're ready to open next week. So, launching lang po 'yan kaya nandito po si Secretary Berna Puyat," he added.

Magalong said only guided tours would be allowed once Baguio City is formally open to the public.

He also said do-it-yourself tours are not yet allowed in the City of Pines.

Tourists have to pre-register if they intend to visit Baguio City, Magalong said.

"Lahat po ng turista, they have to pre-register kaya closely po mamomonitor po natin 'yung kanilang mga galaw," he said.—AOL, GMA News
