Tuguegarao to start 14-day MECQ on Oct. 3 due to spike in COVID-19 cases

The local government of Tuguegarao City will implement a 14-day modified enhanced community quarantine starting Saturday, October 3, to curb the spread of COVID-19, Mayor Jefferson Soriano said.

“Nagkaroon po kami ng community transmission which means may mga nahawa na hindi na po namin ma-trace sa contact tracing namin kung saan nanggaling,” Soriano said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB on Friday.

Soriano said the city now has 82 active cases of COVID-19.

For the past week, he said the city is averaging about five to seven cases.

“Hindi po kasi nangyayari sa Tuguegarao ito kaya hihigpitan namin po kaagad para ma-arrest namin ang pagtaas ng COVID-19 cases,” Soriano said.

He said the local government issued COVID Shield control passes to frontliners, workers, and residents to limit the number of people going out.

Meanwhile, establishments are allowed to open at 20% capacity.

The city will also temporarily ban returning residents or locally stranded individuals unless they have a certificate of acceptance from the local government.

In August, Tuguegarao was also reverted to MECQ status for nine days due to the rise in COVID-19 cases.—AOL, GMA News
