DFA to temporarily suspend operations in Tuguegarao consular office during MECQ

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said its consular office in Tuguegarao in Cagayan will temporarily suspend operations from October 5 to 16 while the city is placed under the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

Regular operations will resume on October 19.

The local government of Tuguegarao City will implement a 14-day MECQ starting Saturday, October 3, to curb the spread of COVID-19, Mayor Jefferson Soriano said on Friday.

“Nagkaroon po kami ng community transmission which means may mga nahawa na hindi na po namin ma-trace sa contact tracing namin kung saan nanggaling,” Soriano said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB on Friday.

Soriano said the city now has 82 active cases of COVID-19.

The DFA said affected applicants or those unable to avail of consular services must secure a new appointment by sending an email to tuguegarao.rco@dfa.gov.ph. They must send the following information: name, date of birth, original appointment date and time, and preferred new appointment date and time.

The department said the new appointment may be scheduled from October 19 to November 19 during weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Those needing emergency or urgent consular services meanwhile may also send an email to the same address.

The DFA asked the public for understanding and cooperation amid the temporary suspension of operations. —KG, GMA News
