GenSan businesses urge easing of city lockdown to a modified GCQ

General Santos City business owners urged the local government to ease the lockdown placed on the city to a modified general community quarantine, according to a Saturday afternoon 24 Oras News Alert.

The General Santos City government had placed the locality under a much stricter general community quarantine despite the national government's Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases' recommendation for a modified GCQ.

The GenSan Chamber of Commerce and Industry argued that the GCQ had made it difficult and expensive for their employees to get to their jobs because of the limitations the lockdown had placed on public transportation.

The GCQ had also made it difficult to ship goods and materials across the city's borders.

The General Santos City government had yet to comment on the chamber's request as of posting time.

The city had logged 402 COVID-19 cases, 196 of which were active, 191 were recoveries, and 15 were fatalities. — DVM, GMA News
