11 Abu Sayyaf members surrender in Sulu, says military

Eleven members of the Abu Sayyaf terror group surrendered in Sulu on Friday to the military, the Armed Forces of the Philippines' Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) said.

The Abu Sayyaf members were under Mundi Sawadjaan and Radulan Sahiron, the WestMinCom said.

They surrendered to Colonel Antonio Bautista Jr, commander of the Philippine Army's 1101st Brigade at 1:30 p.m.

The military withheld the true names of the returnees but said they are:

  3. Amz, 45
  4. Ardin, 32
  5. Bebs, 25
  6. Madz, 48
  7. Uyong, 34 
  8. Bahad, 52
  9. Nayin, 35 
  10. Allon, 45
  11. Asir, 42

 

The Abu Sayyaf members also surrendered seven high-powered firearms such as M16 Armalite and M1 Garand rifles.

“The returnees will be undergoing the Social Integration Program managed by the LGU and JTF Sulu.  They have undertaken their physical and medical examination at Camp Bautista Station Hospital today and will go through profiling process for the next few days prior to the administration of psychosocial interventions," Major General William Gonzales said.

Bautista said the returnees will be enrolled in livelihood trainings and seminars which will be conducted in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

According to WestMinCom, 344 Abu Sayyaf members have surrendered to authorities from 2017 to date.

Of this number, 217 availed of livelihood assistance while 127 have yet to be enrolled in the program of BARMM. —KG, GMA News
