Albay orders disaster response units to activate emergency plan vs. storm

Albay Governor Al Francis Bichara early on Sunday ordered Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils to implement their respective evacuation plans, and activate relief assistance teams in anticipation of the onslaught of Tropical Storm Quinta.

In an order released early on Sunday, the governor said that all LDRRMCs must execute their evacuation plans against storm surge, flood, flash flood, and landslide.

Likewise, Bichara said that local responders must extend assistance to residents, whose houses are made of light materials, to brace themselves against destructive winds.

Moreover, the governor advised the LDRRMCs to provide the necessary support to the vulnerable communities in executing the evacuation plan.

He also reminded responders to ensure strict compliance with health protocols at evacuation centers.

Work, class suspensions

In another advisory, Governor Bichara ordered the suspension of work and online learning classes for Monday, October 26, 2020 due to the storm's threat.

It said, "Work in public and private sectors is hereby suspended tomorrow (Monday) October 26, 2020; and online and blended learning classes in both public and private schools in the entire province are likewise suspended."

On Sunday afternoon, state weather Bureau PAGASA raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 over at least 14 areas, and forecast Quinta to make landfall over the Bicol on Sunday evening. —LBG, GMA News
