Quinta causes floods, landslides, evacuation

Floods, landslides, and evacuations occurred in different parts of the country as Typhoon Quinta was crossing the Luzon area, according to reports on GMA News’ Unang Balita on Monday.

CamSur

In Camarines Sur, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office reported that 16,793 families from hazard-prone areas moved to more than 1,000 evacuation centers.

Some power posts tilted due to the strong winds. Electric wires and other debris such as fallen trees and branches blocked some roads in the town of Buhi, according to Saleema Refran's report.

In Barangay Sta. Cruz, at least 70 families of indigenous peoples came down the mountain in light of a possible landslide.

Flooding, minor landslides, and poor network coverage were also reported in the province.

Albay

In Albay, some employees were stranded in a mall as they waited for the strong winds to stop during the onslaught of Quinta, according to a report of GMA News stringer Mike Jaucian.

Flash floods also hit a part of Legazpi City.

Due to the continuous rainfall, many houses were submerged in floods of up to shoulder-deep. Some vehicles were also stuck in the flood.

Negros Occidental

In Isabela, Negros Occidental, some residents were stranded for three hours after a river overflowed. They could not cross the flood because of the strong current, according to a report of Bam Alegre.

 

Romblon

Meanwhile in Sibuyan Island in Romblon, the power supply went out as the town experienced strong winds due to the typhoon.

Around 200 people residing in coastal areas in the town of Magdiwang evacuated due to the threat of a storm surge.

Laguna, Mt. Province, Quezon

In Laguna, a landslide blocked a portion of the Bucal Bypass Road. At least two bridges were damaged due to the strong current of the flood.

A landslide was also reported in Sagada, Mountain Province.

In Quezon, the provincial police reported that over 14,000 people or over 4,000 families were staying in evacuation centers, according to a report of JP Soriano.

 

Health protocols are being observed in the facilities, authorities said.

Mindoro

Meanwhile in Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro, heavy rains from Quinta and the high tide caused floodwaters to reach waist level in Barangay Zone 1, as seen in these photos and videos shared by YouScooper Butch Buenaventura.

 

 

 

 

Malabon City

In Malabon City, the front of the  city hall and the Estralla Street were submerged in flood due to the rainfall and the high tide, according to Marisol Abdurahman's report.

Ilocos Norte

In Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, a portion of Barangay Saud was also flooded amid the continuous rains and overflowing river, according to Mai Bermudez's report.

A landslide was reported in Barangay Pasaleng. A fallen tree also blocked a road in the area.

In Barangay Saguigui, a dam was damaged due to the rising water level in the river. Concerned residents were alerted for possible evacuation.

Cagayan

Meanwhile, in Sanchez Mira in Cagayan, landslide and flooding were also reported. Some of the residents evacuated from their homes.

In Santa Praxedes, some roads were closed due to landlslides. Some of farm animals like carabao and cow were buried.

Around 350 families have already evacuated in the province.

Bulacan

In Bulacan, hectares of ricefields were submerged in flood due to Quinta.

At least 21 barangays from Calumpit and Hagonoy were flooded due to overflowing river and high tide, according to a report of GMA News stringer Rommel Ramos.

The water levels in Ipo and Bustos Dam already exceeded its critical level.

Batangas

Power interruption was reported in Mabini, San Juan, and Batangas City, according to a report of Darlene Cay.

Around 15 families have evacuated from their homes and at least 72 people were stranded in Batangas Port.  â€”Joviland Rita/KG/KBK, GMA News
