Angat Dam water level rises due to Quinta

The water level of Angat Dam increased after Typhoon Quinta brought heavy rainfall in the country, based on the latest monitoring of state weather bureau PAGASA.

According to PAGASA, the water level in Angat Dam rose from 194.10 meters on Monday morning to 198.80 m on Tuesday morning.

This is above the dam’s minimum operating level of 180 meters.

The National Water Resources Board (NWRB) earlier said that it targets a water level of 212 meters in Angat Dam by the end of the year to ensure sufficient supply in Metro Manila in 2021.

Aside from Angat, the water level in the following dams also increased:

  • Ambuklao Dam – from 749.38 m on Monday morning to 750.77 m on Tuesday morning
  • San Roque Dam – from 247.41 m to 247.91
  • Pantabangan Dam – from 193.11 m to 193.54 m

  • Magat Dam – from 189.75 m to 190.20 m
  • However, the water level in the following dams decreased:
  • Ipo  Dam – from 101.23 m to 100.85 m
  • La Mesa Dam – from 79.40 m to 79.21 m
  • Binga Dam - 574.37 m to 574.23 m
  • Caliraya  Dam – from 287.47 m to 287.39 m

Amid the heavy rains due to Typhoon Quinta, Ipo, Binga, and Magat Dam opened their gates on Monday to release water.

Based on its forecast, PAGASA said that one to three tropical cyclones are expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility in November, and two or three in December. --Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
