At least 9 dead due to Quinta, NDRRMC says

The number of fatalities due to the onslaught of Typhoon Quinta rose to nine, data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) showed on Wednesday. 

In its latest situation report, the NDRRMC said the fatalities came from CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Region VI and Region VIII.

Those who died in MIMAROPA include a mother and her baby in Magsaysay, Occidental Mindoro; a man in Mogpog, Marinduque; a woman in Oriental Mindoro; a man in El Nido, Palawan; and two males from Romblon. 

It added that six were wounded and two remain missing from the said regions. 

A separate situation report from the Office of Civil Defense on Tuesday night showed that five individuals, who were from Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, and Albay, died due to Quinta. Six are missing while 15 were hurt, the OCD Region V (OCD V) added. 

Asked why OCD V's report was not yet reflected in the situation report, the NDRRMC said the report is still being validated.

A total of 49,557 families or 209,457 individuals from 787 barangays in Region III, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, and Regions VI and VIII were affected by the typhoon. Of the total number, 12,233 families or 48,417 individuals are being assisted in 704 evacuation centers. 

In the Bicol region, 252,944 families or 992,404 persons were affected by the weather disturbance. 

Quinta left the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Tuesday morning. 

The agency reported that the damage to agriculture and infrastructure caused by Quinta in Regions I, III, V, VI and CALABARZON has reached P429,726,344. 

Regional disaster risk reduction and management councils continue to monitor their areas of responsibility following the typhoon. —KG, GMA News
