Strong waves, winds due to Rolly batter Quezon, Camarines Norte, other areas


Just less than two hours after Super Typhoon Rolly (international name: Goni) made landfall on Sunday morning over Bato, Catanduanes, residents in Quezon, Camarines Norte and Sorsogon, among other areas, already felt its effects.

Quezon

Strong waves were seen battering the coast of Calauag, Quezon past 6 a.m.

The waters have already reached the market.

In Polillo Island in Quezon at around 10 a.m., the coastline was also being battered by strong waves, as seen in the video shared by YouScooper Mary Beatrix Diestro.

 

In Tagkawayan, Quezon strong winds also threatened to uproot trees.

 

 

A river also threatened to overflow, which occurred before when Tropical Depression Ofel affected the province.

In Gumaca, residents also felt the strong winds and heavy rains, as did those in Catanauan, as seen in a video shared by YouScooper Charles Lois Reyes.

 

Camarines Norte

Meanwhile, in Paracale, Camarines Norte, strong winds were already felt past 6 a.m.

 

 

Some areas in Camarines Norte have already lost power.

The coastal area in Daet was also far from calm on Sunday morning, as seen in a video shared by YouScooper JP De Leon.

 

Sorsogon

In Sorsogon, Rolly's strong winds were seen prevailing in the area, as seen in a video posted by Governor Chiz Escudero on Twitter.

 

 

Camarines Sur

In Bula, Camarines Sur, strong winds and rains were seen almost flattening trees at 7:05 a.m. in a video shared by netizen Rey Decena.

 

 

The waves were also seen lashing at the coast of Presentacion, Camarines Sur, as seen in a video shared by netizen Alfonso Valencia.

 

Meanwhile, filmmaker Hubert Tibi shared a video of Rolly's strong winds and heavy rains threatening Iriga City, Camarines Sur.

 

The winds were so strong that an electric tower fell, as seen in a video shared by Camarines Sur Representative LRay Villafuerte.

 

 

In Ragay, Camarines Sur, coconut trees were seen swaying in the wind.

 

 

Albay

Meanwhile, in Legazpi, Albay, trees fell due to strong winds from Rolly, as seen in a video shared by YouScooper John Romeo Galan.

Rolly made landfall at 4:50 a.m. over Bato, Catanduanes.

National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council executive director Undersecretary Ricardo Jalad said in an interview on Dobol B sa News TV that they have lost contact with Catanduanes after the landfall.

 

 

Rolly next made landfall over Tiwi, Albay at 7:20 a.m.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 5 was raised over Catanduanes, Albay and the eastern portion of Camarines Sur as of 5 a.m.

TCWS No. 4 was raised over Camarines Norte, the rest of Camarines Sur, the northern portion of Sorsogon, Burias Island, the central and southern portions of Quezon, Marinduque, and the northern portion of Romblon.

PAGASA also raised TCWS Nos. 3, 2, and 1 over other areas.
