7 dead in Albay, 390,000 displaced in Bicol due to Typhoon Rolly

At least seven fatalities have been reported in Albay, with over 390,000 individuals displaced in the Bicol Region due to the onslaught of typhoon Rolly (international name: Goni).

Data released by the Department of National Defense showed that the fatalities include two from the town of Malinao and one each from the municipalities of Daraga, Guinobatan, Oas, Polangui, and Tabaco City as of 6:00 p.m. on November 1.

Meanwhile, over 107,831 families or 390,298 persons were displaced: 344,455 inside evacuation centers, and 49,682 outside centers.

Some 1,013 passengers were stranded in Bicol seaports as of 12:00 a.m. on November 1, with 426 trucks, 32 light vehicles, one bus, one sea vessel.

The same report showed that at least five roads are currently not passable due to floods: DM Jct Legazpi Sto. Domingo-Tabaco-Tiwi Cam Sur Bdry Road (Lidong Section); Basud Bridge; DM Jct Legazpi-Sto.Domingo-Tabaco-Tiwi Bdry Road; Comun-Inarado-Penafrancia Bdry Road; and Daang Maharlika (Polangui Section).

Typhoon Rolly weakened into a typhoon before noon on Sunday, but still poses a threat as a number of areas remain under various tropical cyclone wind signals.

It has made four landfalls so far: in Bato, Catanduanes at 4:50 a.m.; in Tiwi, Albay at 7:20 a.m.; in San Narciso, Quezon at noon; and in Lobo, Batangas at 5:30 p.m. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA News
