Mother, son killed in Rolly-triggered lahar flow in Guinobatan, Albay

A mother and her son were killed after lahar carrying boulders from Mayon Volcano hit their community in Guinobatan, Albay during the onslaught of Super Typhoon Rolly last weekend.

According to Saleema Refran's report on Balitanghali on Wednesday, the body of nine-year-old boy Jun-Jun Enriquez was retrieved from the town of Oas, some 20 kilometers away from Guinobatan.

The boy sustained injuries so severe that he was no longer recognizable.

Jun-Jun is the youngest child of 49-year-old Malou, who was found almost buried in lahar in Barangay Travesia in Guinobatan.

Her husband and their two other children survived Rolly but understandably traumatized.

At least six people were confirmed dead while three were still missing in the two barangays that were hit by the lahar flow.

According to authorities, the missing persons might have been buried in lahar in Guinobatan or were also drifted to nearby town Oas like Jun-Jun and two other victims.

The local authorities of Guinobatan are already coordinating with the Municipal Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) of Oas for the search. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
