Binga, Ambuklao, Magat Dams open gates due to Ulysses

Three dams in Luzon opened their gates to release water amid heavy rains from Typhoon Ulysses, PAGASA said Thursday.

As of 9 a.m., Binga Dam in Benguet had six gates open at 4.0 meters.

Binga’s water level was at 572.12 meters at 8 a.m.

PAGASA said Barangays Dalupirip and Tinongdan in Itogon, Benguet will likely be affected.

Ambuklao Dam in Benguet also had eight gates opened at 6.0 meters. Its water level was recorded at 751.42 meters at 8 a.m.

Interviewed on Super Radyo dzBB, PAGASA hydrologist Richard Orendain said as of 1 p.m., Angat Dam in Bulacan has one gate open at 0.5 meters.

He said Norzagaray, Angat, San Rafael, Bustos, Baliuag, Pulilan, Plaridel and Hagonot will be affected by Angat’s discharge.

He added that Angat’s water level is at 211 meters, a meter higher than its normal water level of 210 meters.

As of 1 p.m., Magat Dam in Isabela, meanwhile, had seven gates open at 13 meters.

Orendain said the municipalities of Ramon, San Mateo, Aurora, Cabatuan, Luna, Reina Mercedes, Burgos, Naguilian and Gamu will be affected by Magat’s release.

PAGASA advised affected residents and the local disaster risk reduction and management councils concerned to maintain all the necessary appropriate actions. -MDM, GMA News
