The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will hire 10,000 flood victims in Cagayan and Isabela to work under its cash assistance program, Secretary Silvestre Bello III said on Sunday.

In a briefing with presidential spokesperson Harry Roque in Tuguegarao, Bello said that DOLE authorized Isabela Governor Rodito Albano and Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba to hire workers.

The victims of flooding in Cagayan province are worried over how they can recover from the impact of the calamity after their crops and stored harvest were destroyed.

Some farmers managed to harvest before the calamity hit the province. Unfortunately, the harvest in storage including their food supply was also damaged by the floods.

Due to this, most of the affected residents are looking for food.

Vice President Leni Robredo arrived in Cagayan on Sunday to lead a relief operation in affected areas. She said she already designated staff that will coordinate to her the needs of the victims.

President Rodrigo Duterte and other government officials also went to the flood-hit province where they discussed the situation and possible intervention to help the local government and residents. — DVM, GMA News
