Labo, Camarines Norte placed under state of calamity due to Ulysses floods

The municipality of Labo in Camarines Norte was placed under a state of calamity due to the flooding caused by heavy rains from Typhoon Ulysses last week.

At least three people died, the local government said on Monday.

A total of 5,297 families or 18,968 individuals have evacuated their homes, but 11 barangays have yet to report the number of evacuees in their areas.

Totally damaged houses numbered 434 in 29 barangays. The number of partially damaged houses, meanwhile, reached 2,384.

Aerial photos shared by the Labo LGU showed many houses and agricultural lands were submerged in floodwaters.

 


The river was also still swollen.

Agricultural damage reached P143.8 million, broken down as follows:

  • animals: P107,750
  • high-value crops: P143,002,000
  • palay: P516,000
  • fisheries: P174,346.29

 

As of posting time, the portion of Maharlika Highway from Quezon Province going toward Labo, Camarines Norte is not passable due to landslide.

Ulysses, which pounded the Bicol Region, Southern Tagalog, Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon, caused flooding in many areas.
