Calumpit residents remain chest-deep in Ulysses floods

Days after Typhoon Ulysses lashed the country, residents of Calumpit, Bulacan are still under chest-deep floodwaters.

According to Raffy Tima’s “24 Oras” report on Tuesday, the entire first floor of Amado Cruz’s house is still submerged in water even though Ulysses has left the country.

“Wala ho tayong magagawa e, talangang ganyan. Dapat sinupin ‘yung mga nalubog na gamit e,” he said.

His family passes the time on their rooftop while waiting for floodwaters to subside.

“Mahirap ipaliwanag ang kalagayan namin dito. Talagang kami’y taggutom talaga at ang tubig namin ay hanggang dibdib,” Cruz said.

Other Calumpit residents whose homes have a second floor have set up ladders for easier access.

Those who live in single-story houses, however, are forced to make do amid deep floods.

A drone video showed that the water level of the Pampanga River remained high while houses along its banks were still submerged.
