Ex-Jolo chief of police shot dead in Maguindanao

The former chief of the Jolo Municipal Police, who was administratively relieved from his post after police officers killed four soldiers in Sulu, was shot dead in Barangay Macabiso in Sultan Mastura, Maguindanao on Saturday.

According to the Maguindanao PPO, Police Lieutenant Colonel Walter Annayo got off his vehicle to buy coconut juice at the barangay when he was shot by unidentified suspects who were onboard a white Toyota Fortuner at 1:45 p.m.

The 41-year-old victim was shot in the head and various parts of his body, the Maguindanao PPO said.

The Jolo Municipal Government extended its condolences to the family.

“We condole with the bereaved family for the loss of Police Lieutenant Colonel Water Annayo. Thank you, sir, for the service that you have rendered to us,” the post said.

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said it “cannot ascertain, much less release any result yet as to the motive behind, not even the connection to his previous assignment as chief of police of Jolo police station.”

In July, Annayo was relieved from his post after four soldiers were killed following an alleged misencounter with policemen in Barangay Walled City, Jolo, Sulu on June 29. — DVM, GMA News
