One of the suspects in the murder of Palawan lawyer Eric Jay Magcamit surrendered to authorities on Friday.

An update from the Palawan Police Provincial Office said suspect Marcelino Quioyo, alleged mastermind in the killing of the legal counsel, surrendered to the police at 3 p.m.

The Palawan police said Quioyo wants to be in their custody because he fears for his life.

Police said the suspect is in custody of the Palawan police's Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.

Quioyo was among those slapped with criminal complaints over Magcamit's slay. Also facing murder raps was Police Senior Master Sergeant Ariel Pareja, who, according to the police, was moonlighting as a bodyguard for Quioyo.

Pareja was already placed under the restrictive custody of the Palawan Police Provincial Office.

The Philippine National Police earlier said Quioyo was involved in a court case over a land dispute where Magcamit was representing the other party.
