COVID-19 cases in Davao City Jail now 76 — BJMP

The number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases at the Davao City Jail has climbed to 76 with 28 new infections, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said Tuesday.

According to a report on “24 Oras News Alert,” the BJMP said 25 of the new infections were inmates while three were jail personnel.

These were among the individuals who underwent mass testing on November 23.

Most of the new positive cases were asymptomatic, meaning they have not displayed symptoms of the illness. The cases as well as their close contacts have been isolated.

Meanwhile, contact tracing efforts are ongoing. Authorities are also determining how the COVID-19 was able to spread within the city jail.

Davao City, which is under a general community quarantine, has reported a total of 6,480 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 2,225 active cases, 3,965 recoveries, and 290 fatalities. — Joahna Lei Casilao/RSJ, GMA News
