Laoag public market closed for disinfection after COVID-19 cases reported

The Laoag City Public Market and Commercial Complex in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte has been closed for disinfection starting Wednesday until Saturday, according to a report on 24 Oras News Alert.

Eight new COVID-19 cases were reported in the area after mass testing was conducted on Monday. Five vendors, two workers and one resident tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Laoag City Mayor Michael Keon said the market will be thoroughly disinfected and contact tracing will be done during the temporary shutdown of the market.

Last week, the market was also closed after one vendor tested positive for COVID-19.

Laoag City was placed under a modified enhanced community quarantine starting Friday, November 27 amid the recent increase of COVID-19 cases in the area, the local government announced.

Keon said the MECQ will last for two weeks until December 11. —KG, GMA News
