Over P1.3M worth of marijuana destroyed in Benguet farms —PNP

The Philippine National Police on Sunday said that P1.34 million worth of marijuana plants and seedlings were destroyed after separate operations in three farms in Benguet.

Citing reports from Cordillera Regional Director Police Brigadier General R’Win Pagkalinawan, PNP chief Police General Debold Sinas said 6,700 marijuana plants and 3,250 seedlings were destroyed.

On Saturday, a joint PNP-PDEA team raided a 1,150-square meter marijuana farm in Barangay Badeo, Kibungan, Benguet. They discovered 2,500 marijuana plants and 3,250 seedlings.

On Thursday, Bakun Municipal Police Station troops conducted an operation in a 700-square meter marijuana farm in Sitio Bulisay, Kayapa, Bakun, Benguet, where 2,800 marijuana plants were found.

Also, on Friday, Benguet PNP and PDEA operatives raided a 350-square meter  marijuana farm in Sitio Wasan, Kayapa, Bakun, Benguet and destroyed 1,400 marijuana worth around P280,000.

“Cannabis in the form of plants, products and its derivatives is still a dangerous drug as defined under Republic Act No. 9165 or The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002,” Sinas said in a statement.

He underscored earlier directives to police units to press supply reduction efforts in operation against illegal drugs.

For him, the police operations against marijuana will continue despite cannabis being reclassified as a less dangerous drug by the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (UN-CND). —LBG, GMA News
