'LAKING PAGSISISI'

Nuezca says he regrets shooting Gregorio mother, son

Police Master Sergeant Jonel Nuezca has expressed remorse for his heinous shooting of his neighbors—mother and son Sonya and Frank Anthony Gregorio—on Sunday.

According to Emil Sumangil’s report on “24 Oras,” Nuezca answered in the affirmative when asked if he regretted what he did.

“Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Ang laking pagsisisi,” said Nuezca, who appeared to be lying on the floor of the Paniqui police detention cell in Tarlac when interviewed.

A piece of cardboard covered the upper part of his body and only his legs were seen on camera.

Nuezca was said to have apologized for what happened but he said he had nothing more to say to the family of the victims.

“Negative na, sir,” Nuezca said.

Nuezca shot and killed the Gregorio mother and son in broad daylight after he confronted Frank Anthony for firing a boga, an improvised explosive noisemaker.

He surrendered to the authorities and has since been indicted for two counts of murder.

The cop is no stranger to administrative cases as he faced grave misconduct cases  a few years back.

Both charges, however, were dismissed due to lack of substantial evidence.

Meanwhile, the Gregorio family said Nuezca’s apology will not bring back their loved ones.

“Hindi matatanggap ng sorry ‘yong ginawa niya. Kung may tama siyang pag-iisip, 'di naman mangyayari ito eh lalong lalo na kasama niya 'yong anak niya na parang pinakita niya kung paano ang pagkitil sa buhay ng isang tao. Ganoon ba yung tama?” Sonya’s husband Florentino said.

Meanwhile, Anton’s partner Ronalyn said Nuezca should pay for what he did.

“Dapat po maparusahan po siya kasi dalawa pong buhay ang kinuha niya, biyenan ko po at ang aking asawa,” she said.

President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday ordered authorities to make sure Nuezca remains in jail.

The Commission on Human Rights has condemned the killing and asked when such incidents would stop. NB/KG, GMA News
