Kalibo International Airport closed Jan. 19-21 for disinfection

KALIBO, Aklan - The Kalibo International Airport was temporarily closed and placed under lockdown from January 19 to 21 for disinfection.

This is due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases among airport employees.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines issued a memorandum on January 15 ordering the lockdown on the said dates "for complete disinfection" of airport premises.

The CAAP said the Passenger Terminal Building, ARFF Station and CAAP Administrative Office will be closed on those dates.

Normal operations will resume on January 22.

The Provincial Health Office recently said 11 CAAP employees tested positive for COVID-19 during the mass testing conducted among employees.

As of Jan. 17, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Aklan has reached 547.

Of this number, 80 are active cases, 19 have died, and the rest have recovered. —Jun N. Aguirre/KG, GMA News
