3 alleged BIFF members killed, 1 wounded in Maguindanao clash

Three alleged members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) were killed while one was wounded following an encounter with military troops in Datu Saudi-Ampatuan, Maguindanao, the Philippine Army (PA) said Wednesday.

Major General Juvymax Uy, 6th Infantry Division Commander, said troops of the 6th Infantry Battalion were conducting combat clearing operations in Barangay Kitango on January 23 when they encountered the armed men.

Uy said that the shootout began at 12:43 p.m. The battalion then executed a fire mission targeting enemy positions that resulted in the death of three of the alleged BIFF members.

The fatalities were identified as Haider Suri, Guiali Pikas, Usman Abdulmaguid while the wounded member was identified as Monib Animbang.

“We will go after these extremists and continue to pressure terror groups like the BIFF that threaten the peace and security in this part of Mindanao,” Uy said in a statement.

“Even with the threat of a pandemic, our gallant soldiers from JTFC have been vigilantly guarding the entire Central Mindanao to pursue the remnants of the terror group,” he added.—Joahna Lei Casilao/LDF, GMA News
