Brgy. chair accused of murder, links to Abu Sayyaf nabbed in Basilan

A barangay chairman accused of murder was arrested in Sumisip, Basilan on Thursday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Friday.

Police identified the suspect as Jamiron Ajijon, also known as Jamirun Amigos, chairperson of Barangay Marang.

The warrant of arrest for murder against Ajijon was issued by Regional Trial Court 9th Judicial Region Branch 1, Isabela City, Basilan presiding judge Honorable Leo Jay Principe.

Police said Ajijon was the prime suspect in the killing of businessman Roberto Musablin in 2004 in Barangay Manaul.

Ajijon was also allegedly linked to Abu Sayyaf leaders based in Basilan, including Furuji Indama, Pasil Bayali and Radzmill Jannatul. A M-16 rifle and a caliber .45 pistol were confiscated from him.

According to authorities Ajijon was the leader of the "city hunter" gun-for-hire syndicate allegedly involved in the kidnapping incidents in Basilan.

Meanwhile, police also nabbed one Bassel Ajijon Eting in the same operation for illegal possession of one M-16 rifle.

The suspects were brought to the Anti-Kidnapping Group Mindanao Field Office in Batalla, Zamboanga City, for documentation and investigation. —Anna Felicia Bajo/KBK, GMA News
