Fake faith healer who took off with over P20K, jewels arrested in Rizal

Police arrested a woman in Tanay, Rizal accused of extorting money and jewels from victims duped into believing she was a faith healer.

According to Emil Sumangil’s report on “24 Oras” on Monday, the suspect was identified as Florida Quintano, 43.

Police said a family of a senior citizen who wanted to be healed by Quintano reported that the supposed healer was trying to steal money from them.

And instead of healing, the victim’s skin infection only got worse.

“Nagpabili siya sa amin ng mga manok, mga karayom, mga itlog, ‘yon ang hinahalo niya sa bigas, tapos nilalagyan niya ng itlog tapos nilagay niya doon sa sugat ng asawa ko tapos dinasalan niya,” Delia, wife of the victim, said.

The family already gave Quintano over P20,000 and some of their jewelry. Quintano said these will be used as offering for the victim’s healing.

“Ayaw nga pumayag ng maninipis, gusto makakapal (na alahas),” Delia said.

Tanay police chief Police Lieutenant Colonel Resty Damaso said Quintano will face charges for robbery extortion.

“‘Wag po tayong magtitiwala sa mga fake healer, marami po ‘yan,” Damaso said.

Meanwhile, Quintano denied the allegation against her.

“Fourteen years old pa lang po ako natuto na po akong mag-gamot dahil po ‘yong kanunununuan kong lolo po… sa akin po nila ipinasa ‘yong bale pong tinatawag na anting-anting na bato,” she said.—Ma. Angelica Garcia/LDF, GMA News
