23 armed rebels surrender in Zamboanga del Sur —PNP

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday said 23 local guerilla front members surrendered to authorities in Zamboanga del Sur the day before.

In a statement, PNP said these rebels were part of Barangay Revolutionary Committee/Sangay sa Partido sa Lokalidad.

“These CPP-NPA support group members are not listed in the Periodic Status Report but they have large responsibilities within the Communist Terrorist Group,” PNP chief Police General Debold Sinas said.

PNP said their group is a party branch of Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee and established by Guerilla Front KARA WMRPC, an alleged underground movement of the communist group.

The Municipal Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict of Lapuyan town assisted the surrender of the armed rebels , PNP said.

After taking an oath of allegiance, the rebels were released to the barangay government for further community reintegration. — BM, GMA News
