2 suspected communist rebels nabbed in Davao Region -PNP

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday said two alleged communist rebels were arrested during separate police operations in Davao Region last Wednesday.

According to PNP chief Police General Debold Sinas, a certain Darel Matais Lumantang was nabbed by authorities in Barangay Tubaon, Tarragona, Davao Oriental. He was wanted for alleged attempted homicide.

Sinas said Lumantang was also listed as the team leader of PBC8, WGF18 Terser Baking.

Meanwhile, Romeo Clarion Abella was captured in Brgy. Sto Niño in Talaingod, Davao del Norte. He was armed with a Caspian caliber .45 pistol when arrested by authorities.

Police said Abella was wanted for murder and double attempted murder cases. They added that Abella was allegedly the vice commander of the Guerilla Front 55 operating in Talaingod-Bukidnon area.

Sinas said the arrests have manifested the efforts of the PNP to enforce law against criminal offenders and to support the government's program in ending communist armed conflict.—AOL, GMA News
