Ilocos Norte conducts thorough contact tracing for returning OFW with new UK variant


The provincial government of Ilocos Norte is conducting a thorough contact tracing to identify the people exposed to a returning overseas Filipino worker who got infected with the new COVID-19 UK variant, 24 Oras News Alert reported Monday.

The report said the patient was from Bahrain and tested positive for the virus when he arrived to the Philippines on January 24. It was not yet known what variant of the virus hit the patient.

When the patient completed the 14-day quarantine in Manila and deemed recovered from the disease, it went home to Pasuquin in Ilocos Norte. It was later learned that what the patient got was the new UK variant of COVID-19.

One of the passengers who was with the patient when he traveled to the province is now under isolation.

At least 44 cases of new UK variant has been reported in the Philippines.—AOL, GMA News
