3 suspected NPA members killed in Agusan Sur clash — military

Three suspected New People’s Army rebels were killed following a clash with government security forces in the southern Philippine province of Agusan del Sur, a military statement said Tuesday.

In its statement, the Army’s 402nd Infantry Brigade said that around 2 p.m. Monday, operating troops from the 26th Infantry Battalion engaged about seven insurgents at Sitio Damming, Barangay Zillovia in Talacogon town which resulted in the rebel fatalities.

The rebels were said to be from the Guerilla Front 88 of the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee, the military said.

After the firefight that lasted five minutes, the troops were able to seize the following items:

  • an M16 rifle
  • two shotguns
  • a caliber 38
  • two hand grenade
  • an anti-personnel mine
  • assorted ammunitions

  • five cellphones
  • a binocular
  • medical paraphernalia
  • fifteen sets of Army Battle Dress Attire
  • lousy caps
  • combat boots
  • numerous ammunition of different caliber
  • various documents

No government casualties were reported in the clash.

Brigadier General Maurito Licudine, 402nd Infantry Brigade commander, commended the operating troops, even as the expressed sympathies to the rebels who died in the firefight.  — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA News
