Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway progress rate at 68.21%, ‘substantially completed’ in December

The multibillion-peso toll bridge Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) is now more than halfway to completion and is seen to be “substantially completed” by December this year, Cebu-Cordova Link Express Corp. (CCLEC) said.

In a project update posted on its website, CCLEC said the P30-billion bridge expressway’s overall Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) progress is at 68.21%, “while construction progress alone is at 59.68%.”

With this, the project developer said, “CCLEX is expected to be substantially completed in December 2021.”

The company said it recently completed concreting works for the two main bridge pylons.

Standing 145 meters, the CCLEX pylon on the side of Cebu City and Cordova have already reached their final height, CCLEC said.

The project is an 8.5-kilometer toll bridge that will link Cebu City through the South Road Properties to the Municipality of Cordova in Mactan Island.

The toll bridge is owned and built by CCLEC, which will maintain and operate CCLEX under a joint venture agreement with the local governments of Cebu City and Cordova.

CCLEC is a subsidiary company of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC), the toll roads arm of infrastructure conglomerate Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC).

CCLEX will have two lanes in each direction that will provide a safe, quick and scenic passage to an estimated 50,000 vehicles daily, easing the traffic in the existing Marcelo Fernan Bridge and the Mandaue-Mactan Bridge.

It has a design speed of 80 kilometers per hour and a navigational clearance or height of 51 meters so as to allow large vessels to pass underneath the bridge.

The bridge expressway is seen to reduce traffic and make traveling more convenient as well as spur trade activities and open greater economic opportunities for Cebu and the rest of the Visayas region.—AOL, GMA News
