Cebu governor opposes COVID-19 lockdown

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia opposes the implementation of stricter COVID-19 health protocols under enhanced community quarantine or ECQ, according to a report on Unang Balita on Tuesday.

"Don't mess with us," Garcia said in a video posted on Sugbo News, Cebu Provincial government's official news group.

"We can take care of ourselves. I will not and never again accept a lockdown. I'll fight for Cebu and the Cebuanos," she added.

With the increase in COVID-19 cases in Cebu and the discovery of two virus variants, Garcia reiterated that health protocols are followed, there are enough isolation centers and proper contact tracing is in place.

She pointed out that there were no proposals to implement a lockdown in Metro Manila when there was an increase in COVID-19 cases.

She added that COVID-19 is not eliminated if a lockdown is implemented and that the economy suffers from the strict measures.
