Pampanga archbishop positive for COVID-19, says vicar general

Archbishop Florentino Lavarias of San Fernando has tested positive for COVID-19, a circular from the archdiocese said Sunday.

In the circular dated February 28, 2021, Fr. Francis Dizon, the archdiocese’s vicar general, broke the sad news for the faithful.

But the 63-year old Lavarias, vice chairman of the bishops’ Commission on Clergy, remains in stable condition, the circular indicated.

“Let us all pray for his steady and speedy recover,” Dizon said.

“The people who have been in close contact with the archbishop have been duly informed about the matter,” he added.

A report from the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines' CBCP News said that Lavarias contracted the virus at a time when two other Catholic bishops have just recovered from the disease —Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma, and retired Auxiliary Bishop Antonio Rañola. —LBG, GMA News
