Labor leader killed in Laguna shooting incident —group

A labor union leader was killed in a shooting incident in Calamba, Laguna, on Sunday, according to group Pamantik Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU).

In a tweet, Pamantik KMU identified the victim as Dandy Miguel, the group's vice chairperson and head of the  Lakas ng Nagkakaisang Manggagawa ng Fuji Electric - OLALIA-KMU.

Pamantik KMU said Miguel was shot eight times on a street in Canlubang.

In a statement on Monday, KMU denounced the killing and linked it to President Rodrigo Duterte order to kill armed “communist-terrorists.”

According to the KMU, Miguel was among the organization leaders who filed complaints before the Commission on Human Rights in connection with the deaths of nine activists during the deadly police-military operations on March 7.

Police, in defending the bloody March 7 operations, said they were implementing search warrants against these activists but the targets allegedly fought back against the police.

According to police, the authorities recovered explosives and several firearms, from the target individuals. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
