Former Liliw, Laguna mayor dies after battling COVID-19

Former Mayor of Liliw, Laguna Cesar Sulibit has died after being infected with the coronavirus disease, Laguna government said Monday.

"Yes po. confirmed po na COVID," Laguna Public Affairs Office told GMA News Online when asked for confirmation about the news  of Sulibit's reported death.

The Laguna government added that Sulibit passed away at the Global Medical Center in Laguna, where the former local chief executive is being treated.

Sulibit's son, Ericson, who is the incumbent mayor of the Laguna town, has yet to issue a public statement.

Mayor Vincent Ludovico Soriano of Pakil, Laguna also extended his condolences to the family of the deceased former mayor.

"Sa ngalan po aking Pamilya at ng buong bayan ng Pakil, kami po ay nakikiramay sa mga naiwan ni Former Mayor Cesar Sulibit, ama ng ating Kaibigan at kasalukuyang Mayor ng bayan ng Liliw, Laguna, Eric Sulibit," said Soriano.

"Rest in Peace Mayor Cesar. Baunin mo po ang aming mga panalangin," he added.

Famy, Laguna Mayor Edwin Pangilinan on Sunday also succumbed to the severe respiratory ailment. -- BAP, GMA News
