CHR probes 11 cops involved in Cebu ‘torture room’

The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) is investigating 11 policemen of Sawang Calero Police Station in Cebu, who were allegedly operating a torture room, according to a GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas report on Thursday.

The nation's rights office also inspected the supposed torture room of the accused policemen, who are also facing complaints of robbery, abitrary coercion, grave coercion and grave threat, among others.

CHR said the supposed torture room was in a warehouse, noting that there was indication that someone stayed there.

CHR is coordinating with the Integrity Monitoring Enforcement Group of the Philippine National Police to ensure the security of victims of the police's alleged torture room.—Consuelo Marquez/LDF, GMA News
