Suspected NPA cadre killed in Puerto Princesa clash —WesCom

A suspected member of rebel group New People’s Army guerrilla was killed during a clash in Puerto Princesa City on Friday, the Armed Forces of the Philippines Western Command said.

In a statement, WesCom said elements from Marine Battalion Landing Team 3 encountered some suspected armed rebels in the vicinity of Sitio Karangyan in Barangay Concepcion at about 6 a.m.

WesCom added that the government troops were conducting community support operations in the barangay when the gun battle erupted.

After the brief firefight, the rebels fled from the encounter site.

Citing official reports, WesCom said one rebel was killed and a KG-9 submachine gun was recovered.  No one was hurt on the side of government troops.

Pursuit and clearing operations within the encounter site are ongoing.

WesCom commander Vice Admiral Ramil Roberto Enriquez commended the efforts of the military in the operations and encouraged rebels to surrender to the government. —Joviland Rita/LBG, GMA News
