The provincial government of Laguna on Friday announced the implementation of “modified” liquor ban until the end of April or during the imposition of modified enhanced community quarantine.

In a Facebook post, Laguna governor Ramil Hernandez announced that the provincial government has amended the total liquor ban that was previously implemented in the province.

Under Executive Order No. 12, Series of 2021, the Laguna government allows the sale and distribution of alcoholic beverages to persons aged 21 years old and above.

However, consumption of alcoholic beverages in commercial establishments and public places is still prohibited.

Drinking of liquors is only allowed inside residences but inviting guests for drinking sessions and special occasions is still prohibited.

“Inaasahan natin ang kooperasyon ng ating mga local chief executives sa istriktong pagpapatupad ng Modified Liquor Ban sa kani-kanilang bayan at lungsod, at ang pagsunod ng ating mga mamamayan,” Hernandez wrote.

[We are expecting the cooperation of our local chief executives to strictly implement the Modified Liquor Ban in their respective cities and municipalities. The cooperation from the public is likewise expected.]

The national government has placed Metro Manila and its surrounding provinces Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, and Cavite under MECQ until the end of April amid the surge of COVID-19 cases in the country.

MECQ is the second strictest community quarantine classification in the country, followed by the enhanced community quarantine and next to general community quarantine (GCQ) and modified GCQ. --NB, GMA News
