Abu Sayyaf member killed in Sulu clash

An Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) member was killed after the group clashed with military forces in Indanan, Sulu, the Joint Task Force (JTF) Sulu said Friday.

In a statement, JTF-Sulu commander Major General William Gonzales said the ASG clashed with the 2nd Special Forces Battalion at around 7:55 a.m. in Barangay Kagay.

The body, identified as Arab Undo, is under sub-leader Ella Nasirin, according to Lieutenant Colonel Benito Ramos.

According to the JTF Sulu, reports suggest that the ASG faction was under sub-leader Almujer Yadah, who is an alleged affiliate of bomber Mundi Sawadjaan.

“It is possible that Mundi was also there, trying to cling to the group of Yadah or Nasirin as his own group members were recently neutralized,” Ramos said.

Authorities retrieved one cal. 45 pistol, a backpack, a solar panel, various personal belongings, and food items.

Meanwhile, three soldiers were wounded due to shrapnel. They are in stable condition.

Gonzales said that all troops in Indanan are on high alert while special forces pursue the remaining members of the group.—Joahna Lei Casilao/LDF, GMA News
