Magnitude 5.3 quake jolts Surigao del Norte

A magnitude 5.3 earthquake occurred early Tuesday morning in Burgos, Surigao del Norte, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.

The quake, which had a depth of one kilometer, occurred 5:41 a.m. and was tectonic in origin.

The epicenter was located at 10.37°N, 126.58°E - 068 km N 55° E of Burgos.

The agency earlier reported a 5.5-magnitude earthquake.

PHIVOLCS also reported that Intensity IV was felt in nearby Dapa, Surigao Del Norte while Intensity II was felt in Palo, Leyte.

Aftershocks are expected but there will be no damage to infrastructure. BAP/KG, GMA News
