Agoncillo LGU buys N95 masks amid Taal Volcano’s sulfur emissions

The local government of Agoncillo in Batangas has purchased N95 masks as Taal Volcano continues to emit sulfur dioxide.

According to a report on "24 Oras" on Sunday, around 5,000 residents were affected by Taal's gas emissions, which is harmful to humans and crops.

Crops have already dried out in Barangays Banyaga, Bilibinwang, and Subic Ilaya.

Taal released more than 9,000 tons of sulfur dioxide last week.

PHIVOLCS reminded residents living near the volcano to wear masks, drink plenty of water, and stay indoors as much as possible.

The Agoncillo LGU also said it will need assistance from the provincial and national governments in case of a preemptive evacuation.

Taal Volcano remains under Alert Level 2 or "increased unrest." — Ma. Angelica Garcia/BM, GMA News
